Yu Siang excelled in his studies and was offered the SCIS local fast track scholarship to complete his bachelors and masters at SMU in 4.5 years. As a member of the DotNet Society, he worked with industry partners (e.g. IBM and Amazon) to curate and co-host technology-related workshops and trainings.

In 2019, he led a team of 20 students on an overseas community service project trip to Vietnam and the students met with a bus accident where half of the team sustained injuries. Despite the situation, he remained calm and communicated with the school to ensure that everyone is well-taken care of. Through his actions, he created a warm school culture where people are willing to spend time to uplift others.
